Tavistock Development Co. of Orlando has purchased $8 million of property from Schroeder-Manatee Ranch for a shopping center and luxury rental development on the northeast corner of State Road 70 and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard.
The development, The Green at Lakewood Ranch, would be anchored by an Earth Fare supermarket, and is located within the CORE project area — Collaboration Opportunities for Research and Exploration. CORE is described as a biotech business campus that is being promoted as a site for national life sciences and health care companies.
The Tavistock sale was reported in the Manatee County property transfer report released Wednesday.
Tavistock plans a 525,000-square-foot mixed-use project on 37 acres, including 150,000-square-feet of retail, restaurant and office space, and 304 luxury four-story rental homes.
Earth Fare, with a motto of “healthy food for everyone,” pledges its food is free of added hormones, artificial fats and trans-fats, artificial sweetneners, bleached or bromated flour, antibiotics, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial preservatives, and artificial colors and flavors.
The Lakewood Ranch Earth Fare supermarket would be the first in the Bradenton-Sarasota market. Earth Fare has supermarkets in Tallahassee, Ocala, Jacksonville and Seminole.
In addition to Earth Fare, The Green would include a fitness facility and restaurants and would open by the first quarter of 2018, the Bradenton Herald reported in January.
“We are looking for other cool concepts for morning, noon and night,” Skipper Peek, vice president of Tavistock Development Company, said at the time.
Tavistock Development Co. is a diversified real estate firm. Included in its portfolio are the 17-square-mile, master-planned community Lake Nona in Central Florida, which includes a health and life sciences cluster, reminiscent of what is planned at Lakewood Ranch.
